Taylor Swift’s “Mine”
The newest single from Taylor Swift hit the airwaves last week. It seems like nothing can bring down the teen queen of country music. True to the classic Swift style, the song is filled with catchy lyrics and melodies that would leave any girl wanting to hear more. However, this might eventually be her downfall given that virtually all her songs are about the same thing. As an indication of this possibility, the song quickly dropped out of iTunes Top 10. Despite the abrupt decline, Swift knows how to cater to her audience, and has built up a strong fan base doing just that. I predict that her album, due out in October, will reach the top of the charts. Until then, “Mine” should be enough to satisfy audiences, who are far from being tired of her. For that reason, Thumbs Up.

Silly Bandz
Sometime between the end of the last school year and the beginning of the new one, silicone rubber bracelets made their way into North. Originally popular with younger, elementary age children, Silly Bandz are shaped like animals, instruments, Disney characters and everything in between. Similar to Pokemon cards, they can be traded among friends. In fact, they’ve become enough of a distraction in some areas of the country that they’ve been banned from school. Yet because they are nostalgic and relatively age appropriate, Silly Bandz get a Thumbs Up.

“The Bachelor Pad”
“Bachelor” fans beware: this spin-off of the hit show does not live up to its predecessor. ABC’s producers picked some of the most memorable contestants from past seasons and put them all in one house to compete for $250,000. Though the premise sounds like a typically trashy reality show, the cast goes much further. The show is filled with hook-ups and break-ups, but it fails to entertain. This show clearly deserves a Thumbs Down.
